HHLA TK Estonia terminal in Muuga hosted the biggest ro-ro vessels to ever visit the port

In February and March, Finnlines’ vessels Finnsky, Finnbreeze and Finneco were received at HHLA TK Estonia terminal – the biggest ever ro-ro vessels to dock at Muuga port. The visit of Finneco is also remarkable due to the fact, that the ship can achieve zero emissions during port calls.

In total, the Finnlines vessels departing from Travemünde port in Germany visited Muuga on 7 occasions. In Estonia, a total of 1400 units of trucks, trailers, containers, and new passenger vehicles were unloaded. Onto the ships a total of 730 trucks, trailers, containers, and new passenger vehicles were loaded.

“There was a total of five port calls in February and two in March,” explained HHLA TK Estonia CEO Riia Sillave. “Although regular ro-ro shipping connection runs between Muuga and Vuosaari in Finland already for years, these port calls marked important milestones for us – sister ships Finnsky, Finnbreeze and Finneco II are the biggest ever ro-ro vessels docking in Muuga.”

The 238-meter-long hybrid vessel Finneco II is one of the newest additions to Finnlines' ro-ro fleet and it has been awarded a “Green Plus” environmental certificate by the international classification society RINA. The ship, commissioned in the summer of 2022, uses 5 MW power banks during port calls, thus allowing it to reach zero emissions at that time. The batteries are recharged during sailing on the sea, and 600 m2 of solar panels also generate the required power.

Finneco II car deck has a total of 5800 lane meters available for trucks, cars and containers, the vessel’s gross tonnage is 60 515. Finnsky and Finnbreeze are both 217 metres long ro-ro vessels with a total of 4192 lane meters and the gross tonnage of 33 816.
