At the end of May, HHLA TK Estonia visited Germany as part of an Estonian maritime and logistics business delegation, with the aim of strengthening freight connections between Estonia and Germany and developing cooperation with key European logistics hubs.

Minister of Infrastructure Kuldar Leis, who led the delegation, noted: “Through the ports of Hamburg and Lübeck, we are better connected to Germany as Europe’s largest economy, and from there to other European markets. Estonia’s maritime sector, in turn, has digital solutions to offer that help make the movement of goods faster, cleaner and more efficient.”

“HHLA TK Estonia’s terminal in Muuga is one of Estonia’s main freight gateways, through which a significant share of Estonia’s exports and imports moves. It is therefore very important for us that Estonia’s connections with Europe’s largest markets are strong, reliable and have growth potential. Closer ties with Germany’s key ports create new opportunities for Estonian companies and are certainly also one of the foundations of Estonia’s economic success,” said Riia Sillave, CEO of HHLA TK Estonia.

The Estonian business delegation was received at HHLA’s headquarters in Hamburg by the group’s new CEO, Jeroen Eijsink. The delegation was introduced to HHLA’s history, and discussions were held on opportunities for cooperation between terminals and within the logistics sector, as well as in the field of sustainable freight movement.

During the visit, the Port of Tallinn signed cooperation agreements with the ports of Hamburg and Lübeck. The agreement signed with Hamburg creates the basis for increasing cargo flows and exchanging experience in port digital solutions and cybersecurity. The agreement signed with Lübeck focuses on developing the maritime transport corridor between Paldiski South Harbour and Lübeck, including the possibility of strengthening the connection through additional departures or by involving a new line operator.
